Artist Statement
“Seeing is more than just looking. My eyes dissect an object down into simplified and angular shapes. My hands piece them together to create a recognizable object as a whole. Color unifies the graphic and expressive qualities in my art. I am a creator of the unseen. A translator of the ordinary. With my work, I’m bringing attention to the beauty overlooked in the everyday.” – Tanya Green
Artist Bio
Tanya is a painter and muralist working in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area since 2018. She grew up in New England, obtained a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Communications: Graphic Design from the University of Delaware, and worked as a graphic designer for several years after college. Tanya decided to change careers which led her to get a Masters in Education from the University of Mary Washington. Prior to pursuing painting full time, she worked as an art educator in public schools for 13 years.
Tanya’s artwork is inspired by the unnoticed objects found in a familiar world. She is intrigued with the way light interacts with objects and how they can take on different personalities when observed from different angles. Tanya enjoys playing with those angles to change the perspective at which objects are viewed. Thus changing the context of the object to the viewer.
Tanya’s style melds graphic and expressive elements together. Strong harmonious colors with forms made up of simplified shapes are key elements in her painting style. Tanya is influenced by precisionism with a little bit of cubism mixed in.
